Frequently Asked Questions
Authenticity, allocation, shipping and storage — the questions we are asked most often.
Authenticity & Sourcing
How do you verify that a bottle is authentic?
Every bottle is bought through licensed channels and inspected on arrival against its barrel or batch documentation. We check fill level, closure integrity, capsule seating, label registration and glass coding. Anything inconsistent is rejected and returned to the supplier rather than discounted and sold on.
Do you buy from the secondary market?
No. We buy from licensed distributors and directly from distillery allocation programmes. That is why some bottles are unavailable here even when you can find them elsewhere.
What is a single barrel, exactly?
A single barrel bourbon comes from one cask and is bottled on its own, with no blending. Because every barrel matures differently depending on its floor and rick position, two single barrels from the same distillery can taste noticeably different. The barrel number on the label tells you precisely which cask you have.
What does bottled in bond mean?
It is a legal designation from the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. The whiskey must be the product of one distilling season and one distillery, aged at least four years in a federally supervised warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof with nothing added but water.
Allocation
How does the allocation list work?
It is free to join and your position is recorded when you confirm your email. When a rare release lands we notify the list in order, attach the barrel or batch documentation, and give you seventy-two hours to claim your bottle at the released price. There are no auctions and no surge pricing.
Why is there a one-bottle limit?
Because a nine-cask release disappears in minutes otherwise, and it disappears to resellers rather than to drinkers. The limit is the only way to get rare whiskey into the hands of people who intend to open it.
A bottle I want is marked as allocated. What now?
Join the list from the product page. You will be contacted before the next release rather than left refreshing the page.
Ordering & Delivery
Do I have to be home for delivery?
Yes. Federal and state law require that alcohol be handed to an adult aged 21 or over with valid photo identification. Carriers cannot leave alcohol unattended or with a neighbour.
Which states do you ship to?
We ship wherever direct-to-consumer spirits shipping is permitted. The definitive list is the one shown at checkout — if your state cannot be selected, we cannot currently ship there. Full detail is on our shipping page.
When is shipping complimentary?
On orders over $250, using our insured ground service. Expedited services are quoted at checkout.
Can I send a bottle as a gift?
Yes, provided an adult aged 21 or over will be present to sign. Our outer packaging is unbranded, so nothing on the box reveals the contents. Add a note at checkout and we will include a hand-written card.
Storage & Serving
How should I store bourbon?
Upright, out of direct sunlight, at a stable room temperature. Unlike wine, bourbon does not improve in glass and should not be laid on its side — prolonged contact with the closure can taint the whiskey. Once opened, a bottle will hold well for a year or two; below the halfway mark, oxidation accelerates.
Should I add water or ice?
Whatever you enjoy. A few drops of water genuinely opens up a barrel-proof bourbon and is not a compromise. A single large clear cube dilutes more slowly than several small ones. There is no correct answer, only a preference.
Does bourbon have an age statement requirement?
Straight bourbon aged less than four years must state its age. Beyond that, an age statement is optional, which is why an unstated whiskey may be four years old or fourteen. Where we know the age, we publish it.
