Description

Whiskey: Basil Hayden’s Caribbean Reserve Rye This unique release blends Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey with Canadian Rye Whiskey and a subtle touch of Black Strap Rum. Size: 750mL Proof: 80 (40% ABV) Origin: United States Distillery: Kentucky Springs Distilling Co. To create Basil Hayden’s® Caribbean Reserve Rye™, the blending team took inspiration from the growing trend of cask-finished ryes, and was particularly drawn to the sweet and spicy contrast between rum and rye. They spent over a year aging rye in rum casks, but couldn’t get the flavor quite right. Finally they discovered that blending premium Black Strap Rum directly into the rye created the perfect molasses-sweet finish they were looking for. Basil Hayden’s® Caribbean Reserve Rye™ is a blend of 8-year Kentucky Rye Whiskey and 4-year Canadian Rye Whisky. This unique Rye blend is finished with Black Strap Rum for a toasted oak flavor complemented with rye spice and molasses-rich sweetness. Basil Hayden’s Caribbean Reserve Rye Tasting Notes Nose: Rich caramel and brown sugar, light rye, vanilla Palate: Rye and brown sweets with woody accent. Finish: Pleasant, long lingering warmth. Distillery Information In 1796, Master Distiller Basil Hayden Sr. broke ‘the rules’ by mixing small grains into the mash of a traditional corn base. A Maryland transplant unafraid to stand out amidst the residing establishment, Basil conjectured that the spicy flavor of rye would be a striking complement to the sweet smoothness of corn in his distillery’s standard bourbon.
